In our continuously changing world where political correctness is encouraged and imposed, some people reserve the right to speak their minds freely – some for good, others for evil. I would consider myself the former (the good rather than those who don’t speak up).
In 20-something years of life, I’ve seen and heard many things in the Body of Christ. Chances are that you have too. In fact, it’s so prevalent that some Christians refer to it as speaking “Christianese”. At the root of this, I believe, is a distortion (a “misunderstanding” for those of you of a more sensitive disposition) of the Truth of The Gospel. Too many Christians have adopted the world’s way of doing things (after seeing many non-Christians go about life and making a better success of it) to the detriment of The Great Commission.
One of my favourite scripture in The Bible can be found in Paul’s letter to the Colossians in Chapter 2 verse 8. It reads:
“See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental principles of the world, and not according to Christ…” (ESV)
If there is a great danger to many young Christians today, it’s that in our desire to work out our salvation for ourselves and avoid the legalistic mindsets imposed on us by those who came before us, we have endangered our understanding of The Gospel by allowing The World to shape it with things that sound right but do not hold Biblical weight. Simply put, there are many corrupt theories that have seeped in and taken root.
As I continually work hard to improve my understanding of God’s view of the world and His heart, I believe this is a key issue in bringing The Body in alignment with The Head (Christ) so if things come across as over-zealous… Bear with me… I am but a work in progress.
What you have here is a collection of what I can only describe as “parables” and teachings that have been revealed to me. They are as much for my benefit and my instruction as they may be for you. It always helps to remember:
“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12 – ESV)
As I continue to learn more about that scripture from Hebrews and reveal the incision that the sword brings to my heart, I can hopefully share that process with you (with the hope it begins/continues the work in you); and if those terms makes you uncomfortable then you’re definitely in the right place. Read on and be challenged further.
If your senses need further stimulation then I highly recommend a visual feast here.
